About Us

Director/Head Track Coach

Maria (Embon) Williams, Founder of Atlanta Speed Academy, LLC. is a graduate of Florida State University (FSU) with a Masters in Social Work and a graduate of the University of Florida (UF) with a Masters in Business Management/Risk Management. Maria is an avid runner with a passion for teaching young athletes the fundamentals of running. Maria competed at both University of Florida (freshman year,1994) and Florida State University (1995-1997) in track.

While at Florida State University, Maria was:
  • 4-time NCAA All-American
  • 3-time NCAA National Championships Runner-Up in 4X400
  • FSU Women's Team, Volunteer Coach 
  • FSU Academic Mentor for student-athletes
  • FSU Youth Track  Camp Summer Counselor

During her tenure at FSU, Maria was a very versatile runner and ran events from the 4x100meter relay to the 800 meters. To date, Maria’s accomplishments while at Florida State University still ranks:
  • 1st and 5th on FSU's All-Time 4x400 meter Indoor list
  • 1st on the ACC All-Time list 4x400 meter Indoor list
  • 3rd, 5th, and 7th on FSU's All-Time 4X400 meter Outdoor list
  • 9th on FSU's All-Time 400 meters Indoor list
  • 9th on FSU's All-Time 800 meter Outdoor list
  • 16th on FSU's All-Time 400 meters Outdoor list
  • 400 meters High School Record at Evans HS (1993).
  • Evans HS Hall of Fame
  • State Qualifier for Cross Country,5k in 19:50

Maria currently coaches local high school track athletes in private sessions and competes in local 5ks, 10Ks, and Half marathon races. Maria has placed and won her age group in several local road races and has run 6 half marathons. She recently became a half marathon fanatic by completing two half marathons within 24 hours and currently training for Masters Level USA Track and Field.
 

Director/Strength Conditioning
Leon Williams is a CrossFit Level 1(CF-L1) Trainer and has been training in strength and endurance for 14 years. Leon leads both the Adult Boot Camp, private, and small group training as well as the Children’s Strength and Endurance Training Program. Leon is responsible for partnering with the parent's of each child to ensure that both fitness and nutritional objectives are met and that each child meets their full potential. To date, he has completed 1 half marathon!

Chiropractic Guest Speaker 

Dr. Pamela Stone is an accomplished runner and chiropractor in the Kennesaw area. She will discuss injury prevention, proper stretching techniques, and chiropractic care with our campers. During the past 22 years, she has completed more than 80 triathlons, including an Ironman distance race and four Half-Ironman races. She has also completed 10 marathons, has qualified for the Boston Marathon 5 times, and has competed in hundreds of other running races. She credits regular chiropractic care for allowing her to be healthy and injury-free.

Ronnie Battle
owner of Fellowship Sports/Football is no stranger to putting forth his best efforts to attain seemingly impossible goals! From early childhood, he has received
unprecedented academic and sports accolades - most notably, being eligible for an academic collegiate scholarship while still in middle school! Despite the community that surrounded him and the lack of a consistent male role model, Ronnie was determined that he would beat ALL odds! He accepted a scholarship to the University of Florida and played cornerback during the time they were the SEC and National Champions. He excelled both on and off the field and received his Bachelor of Business Science in Advertising. Ronnie's motto is"BATTLE the Odds!"
 
Character Guest Speaker
Sterling Brown
 is a former collegiate student athlete, Division I Coach, and Chaplain to professional athletes. He was a 2 time All-Conference wide receiver at the University of Richmond. He still remains in the top 5 in several University of Richmond receiving categories. After graduation, he became the Florida State University Strength & Conditioning Coach where he specialized in speed, agility, and power training and was promoted to Director of Strength & Conditioning for FSU women’s sports, plus men’s Olympic sports. As such he was responsible for the staff development, testing, and training programs for many of the nation’s most elite athletes.Beyond just training athletes physically, Sterling has played a strategic role in starting student-athlete ministries at FSU, Georgia Tech & Kennesaw State University, and even served as Co-Chaplain for the NHL Atlanta Thrashers.He brings a wealth of experience, passion for helping athletes improve their athleticism and a heart for developing fundamentals of character that will last individuals for life.


Olmpian Guest Speaker

Terrence Trammell a Silver Medalist in 2000 and 2004 Olympics.Trammell
made his first Olympic team in 2000 as a 21-year-old; in 2012 he goes for his fourth Olympic berth at age 33. In 2011, He was ranked #4 in the United States and #7 in the World in the 100m Hurdles. He is a Two-time USA Outdoor champion and Five-time USA Indoor champion. Trammell attended the University of South Carolina where he was a Six- time NCAA Champion. In high school, he was an All-American in track and football. Track & Field News named him the Male High School Athlete of the Year
in 1997.

Kim Batten
 is a retired 400 meter hurdler. She is a former World Record Holder in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Batten graduated from the Florida State University and won the NCAA National Championship and the U.S.A. National Championships. She has won a total of six national championships (1991, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998). In 1996 she won silver in the 1996 Olympic Games and in 1997 won bronze in the World Athletics Championships. She was also a member of the 2000 US Olympic track team. Her personal bests times are as follows:

● 200m - 23.52
● 400 - 50.61
400mH - 52.61 World Record 

Head Football Coach
Germaine Stringer was selected by Kansas City Chiefs as free agent. He ran track and played football at Florida State University where he was the kick return specialist/wide receiver
on their National Championship team. In high school, he recorded the second fastest 100-meter time in the nation as a junior (10.18) and clocked a 40 meter time of 4.28. He also coached a high school girls track team in Atlanta that never placed in the State to finishing 3rd in the State Championships and will be working with some of our football athletes on speed drills and techniques unique to their individual sports.

Head Track Coach
Reggie Glover graduated from Florida State University in 2000 and majored in Marketing. Glover has coached track programs in Orlando, Florida that have consistently included State Championship qualifiers in sprints, hurdles, and relays. Glover’s athletes have achieved track and field and football scholarships to top colleges. Some of these student-athletes have also had to opportunity to compete in the U.S. National Junior Olympics. His son Reggie Glover, Jr. also attended our camp (now at University of Georgia) had the fastest time in the nation for 2013 in the 400 meters with a time or 46.46 and also ran 21.13(200m) and 10.60 (100m). We are thrilled to have Reggie's expertise on our staff!


After School Program Coordinator
Danzell Fortson
 graduated from the University of Texas in 2011 and majored in Corporate Communications with a Minor in Computer Science. Fortson has worked with Marathon Kids working with elementary athlete development and also as their Social Media Program Intern. He was a member of Bahamas National Team and training for the Olympics. He was also a member of the United States World Youth Track Team. Assistant Track/Baseball Coach
Nigel Talton is a former Kennesaw State University track athlete that has run 6.73(60m) and 10.47 (100m). Nigel is also a five-time NAIA All-American. He was a baseball, football, and track athlete. He has been an awesome addition to our staff and is excellent with our athletes. He is training for the next Olympics!
